The best description of my career as a writer is “at play in the fields of the Lord.” Ray Bradbury
What if your life was a prayer?
Warning! This email may challenge some long held cultural or family beliefs about what your life is about. Please pause here and place your hand on your heart and take a deep breath with me (really). Feeling into the wisdom of your heart, ask yourself, “what am I here to experience?” What does that look like? What does that feel like? Are you experiencing that now? I bet it wasn’t merely surviving and accumulating stuff while feeling stuck, bored, and dead inside. I hope your heart let you know the truth of your existence, that you are here to be love and joy!
One of my main discoveries about the Law of Attraction is that it is not about our thoughts. It is about our feelings. Everything is about energy and like attracts like. Since love is a high vibration, it attracts experiences that resonate with that vibration. This is where prayer and play come in. When we follow our hearts and act from love, we are connecting with divine inspiration and life becomes a prayer. The Navajo or Dine people have a wonderful prayer that speaks of this truth.
Walking in Beauty: Closing Prayer from the Navajo Way Blessing Ceremony
In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again

Today I will walk out, today everything negative will leave me
I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body.
I will have a light body, I will be happy forever, nothing will hinder me.
I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me.
I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me.
I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful.
In beauty all day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons, may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.
With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful…
I believe that returning to the beauty way is what is seeking to come forward at this time for our evolution. I understand this may be challenging for many people. Many of us, including myself, were taught that there is no time for play and that our “work” needs to be hard and painful or that we need to sacrifice our joy for our children so that they may go to college (and learn how to be miserable too). As a child, my father made jokes about me because I “stopped to smell the flowers.” I felt some shame about this, like I was ridiculous and unproductive. Now, I realize that “stopping to smell the flowers” is my biggest asset. I discovered that my prayer, my connection to the divine, my beauty way is in dancing, singing, drumming, painting, sculpting, creating ceremony and ritual, spending time in nature hiking and swimming, meditating, doing yoga, and deeply listening and connecting with other divine expressions…..humans, plants, earth, and animals.
